Local Area Information

We are located on the 3 Distilleries pathway just a few moments walk from Lagavulin Distillery. This is the perfect base to explore Islay's world famous whisky distilleries, the beautiful beaches, heritage, wildlife and much more.

The path which was completed in 2015 runs from Port Ellen village to Ardbeg Distillery covering a distance of 3.5 miles.  From your starting point in Port Ellen the path winds its way along the shore affording a stunning outlook towards the Mull of Kintyre and the Antrim Coast of Northern Ireland.  You then venture inland through the forest surrounding Laphroaig and on towards Lagavulin.  The path then slowly winds its way up towards Ardbeg providing views again of the Mull of Kintyre with the hills of Arran behind.

If you are planning some distillery visits it is recommended that you contact the distilleries in advance to reserve your tours and experiences.

A bus service passes the house, with the nearest stop a few minutes walk at Lagavulin Distillery.  This service connects to other parts of the island, please note there are no buses on Sundays or in the evenings. One of the best ways to explore the island, especially the more remote areas is by car.

Our nearest village is Port Ellen which is 2.5 miles away.  Located in Port Ellen are small grocery shops, a Post Office and gift shop, a pub, a small number of restaurants and a petrol station.

Bowmore which is 13 miles from Lagavulin Excise House is the largest town on the island.  Here you will find a wider selection of places to eat, Tourist Information, petrol station, shops, banks and ATMs .

During the busy summer months it is advisable to make dinner reservations for evening meals, especially in Port Ellen.
